Results – January TREC

Congrats to Novice winner Sharyn Wells and Diesel, who practiced their socks off to achieve a score of 118/160. Second was Helen Woolven and Rio with 112, Third was Mary Stockdale on the lovely 6 year old black arab mare Cumbria Khafifah with 110 (arabs rock LOL not biased at all), Fourth was Veronkia Korkoszkova on Molly with 103, Fifth was Anne Short and Another Chance with 102 and Sixth was Carol Higgins on Wee Bob with 97.

In the Open, winner was Helen Woolven and Rio on 127, Second was Rhoda McVey and the speedy Fizz on 124, Third was Mary and Khafifa on 114, Fourth was Emma Mackie and Indi on 111, Fifth was Jane Nally and Teco on 108 (think Jane had a late night) and Sixth was Jane Howard and Ticket on 79.

The Top Score was highly contested with the winner being Helena Stewart and Fergus, (who is recovering from a strain and wasn’t allowed to canter!) with a well thought out course gaining a massive 181 points. Second was Rhoda and Fizz who had a good go but only managed 142 points. Third was Moira Pickering and Zak, Fourth equal were Ailsa Wylie and Arabella on their first every TREC outing and Emma and Indi, both on 119 points. Sixth was Andrew Hamilton and Georgie, who despite not practicing got 97 points.

Well done and hope to see you all at the next one on March 16th!

2013 Show Jumping

Hello,

We’re pleased to let you know that we have dates for two SJ competitions this year: 1st June and 10th August, schedules to follow in due course. We are holding these at the fabulous West Kype again. These will be unaffiliated competitions with classes from nursery novice to open (junior and senior), as well as clear round and pairs.

We had great fun last year with our Olympic themed and Halloween themed jumping. We do like a bit of (safe) fancy dress, so if you have any suggestions for a theme, do let us know on the Facebook page!

We also have a date for our annual showing show, Saturday 28th July at Maidenhill, Newton Mearns.

End of an Era for Lanark Riding Club

Lanark Riding Club marked the end of an era at its AGM on Monday 12th November when Jane Nally stood down from the committee after 15 years of service.

Jane joined the LRC committee in the mid nineteen nineties when the club had a very small membership and only ran a couple of low key events each year. Before long she was elected to the position of Chairman which she held for over ten years. Jane quickly set about changing the image of the club and one of her first tasks was to carry out a vigorous recruitment drive. This was known to involve stopping innocent people out hacking and asking them to join the committee!  A priority was to set up a comprehensive programme of riding club events.  This included the establishment of a dressage league – Lanark was one of the first Riding Clubs in Area 1 to do this – regular show jumping competitions, and an annual showing and dressage show which literally had classes for everyone! She also believed strongly that the Club should encourage good riding and horsemanship, and developed our ongoing programme of subsidised lessons and training for members.

Throughout her period on the Committee Jane has turned her hand to every conceivable riding club task, from setting up dressage arenas and show jumping courses, to doing the times for the dressage league. She has also stepped in on several occasions when we have needed a judge at the last minute. Hairy pony judging was a particular speciality and we hope we can continue to call on Jane’s services for this. She will also continue to run some beginner’s dressage shows for us at Mid Drumloch farm where people can try dressage for the first time.

Jane also represented the Club at Area 1 and other team competitions on numerous occasions, riding her horses Teco (now semi retired) and Gem. Riding Gem, she was part of the successful LRC team that came 5th at the Area 1 dressage qualifier atRozellePark in June this year.

Everybody at Lanark Riding Club is very sorry to see Jane standing down, and we will miss her expertise and experience on so many things. We wish Jane all the best for her ‘retirement’ from the committee. She should now be able to compete at events more often, instead of holding a clipboard!

Area 1 Winter Dressage Qualifiers

18th Nov 2012

Huge well done to Lanark Riding Club, who was well represented by two teams at the Area 1 dressage qualifiers at SNEC yesterday.

Unfortunately, lameness meant that the ‘blue’ team (Caroline Allen, Moira Pickering and Karen Kilpatrick) were down to 3 members, but still did a fantastic job and got placed 17th. The ‘red’ team of Stewart Murphy, Jane Nally, Pamela Mailler and Marion Reid took 9th place.

Individually, Pamela was 4th in the prelim warm up, and Stewart and Moira were 4th and 6th in the novice warm up. Well done to Stewart for being placed 2nd in the novice qualifier test with a super score of 71.5%.

Thanks to Almond Riding Club for a well organised and fun day out.
